Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment revealed there to be no known archaeology within the site, though the putative course of a Roman road passes c.100m to the north of the site, from east to west. Second World War defences also occur in the study area. Some disturbance was shown to have occurred within the site, with the construction of large areas of glasshouses. The main archaeological potential of the site lay in discovering features associated with the small medieval settlement of Hammond Street, though the western part of the site would have formed part of Cheshunt Common in this period and thus would have a lower potential for settlement remains.
