Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken of the National Trust landholding at Porthminster Point. A Neolithic axe factory had been suggested to have existed on or near to the Point and two field systems of possible later prehistoric origin were identified. The field systems along the cliff edge were identified as being of possible pre-Norman origin, with elements altered during the 19th century with the construction of the Great Western Railway's branch line to St Ives from St Erth. Other post-medieval features included a pre-1841 quarry, the Wheal Margery Mine, and a possible World-War Two pill-box. [AIP] |
