Abstract: |
The results were dominated by large ferrous anomalies and widespread magnetic disturbance produced by pipes, adjacent buildings and a backfilled quarry pit. This noise will have masked weaker archaeological type responses in the immediate vicinity. In between the areas of disturbance a few anomalies of possible interest were identified, but analysis of these (in particular, any patterns they may have formed) were hampered by the ferrous noise. The most promising responses were two parallel linear anomalies and a group of short, ill-defined linear features that formed a possible rectilinear pattern. These lay within the bailey earthwork, supporting an archaeological interpretation. The earthwork itself was apparently represented in the data as faint curving trends. Elsewhere in the survey parallel linear anomalies suggested former ridge and furrow cultivation. [Au] |
