Abstract: |
<summary>Desk-based assessment and field appraisal were undertaken of an area of proposed development at Ashton Moss. The survey identified the existence of extensive, deep, well- preserved peat deposits. There is a strong likelihood of prehistoric and Roman activity. The medieval and post-medieval landscape has been preserved by the lack of industrial activity. Six farmsteads of 17th century or earlier origin lie within the study area. An initial programme of non-destructive investigation is recommended for the Moss. The remainder of the sites should be subject to trial-trenching. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
