Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment which focussed on the pinpointing of mine features onto a 1:2500 survey map was undertaken at Perranporth. Perran Sands was the site of some of the earliest copper and lead mining in Cornwall: mines here being tried in the late 1500s with others in West Cornwall as part of an undertaking which embraced a group of mines at Keswick in the Lake District. Several shafts which had subsided were revealed although the movement of sand had obscured any other mine structures from view. [AIP] |
