Abstract: |
The evaluation consisted of twelve test-pits excavated in advance of a proposed new sewer pipelines. Four different landscape and deposit zones were located along the route. There was also evidence to suggest that the remains of an Iron Age period settlement site existed in the area (subsequently was confirmed). There was no evidence for occupation along the rest of the route, although artefactual material from the plateau was discerned in deep colluvial layers to the base of an escarpment to the south of the plateau. One zone was situated in a field to the south-west and traversed an escarpment across a belt of Head Brick-earth. Evidence for brick-earth extracting supported known documentary sources. [Au(abr)] |
