Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment and walkover survey indicated that there might have been undetected prehistoric activity on or near the proposed pipeline route, especially in unploughed areas. There may also have been industrial activity on the route. A kiln site and a reported Mesolithic site were found to lie close to the proposed route. It was recommended that topsoil stripping and woodland clearance be closely monitored by an archaeologist, and that wherever possible stripping or clearance should precede trenching by two working days to allow time to evaluate and record any large or significant features.
