Abstract: |
The building investigation revealed several phases of development, which took the building from a small cottage of only four rooms, to an eighteenth century smallholding and associated farm buildings, through to extensive modern alterations. The watching brief revealed evidence for the position of the original chimney and a brick-built flue was found after the removal of the roof. The factory-made bricks observed at the top of the flue contracted with the hand-made examples below and probably related to the heightening of the roof in the later nineteenth or twentieth century.
