Abstract: |
An evaluation undertaken on land proposed for development located evidence of activity of medieval date throughout most of the trenches examined and identified remains relating to the Civil War Hornwork in three locations. A thick layer of soil laid down in the late 17th or 18th centuries overlay the earlier deposits and features. Traces of subsequent industrial and commercial use included a number of extant buildings - a number of other buildings had been demolished prior to the recent use of the site as a builder's merchants.
