Abstract: |
Field evaluation of a site proposed for a residential development, believed to lie within an area of medieval and later expansion of Witney, revealed only limited archaeological remains. The earliest definable activity within the site was a medieval stone-filled pit or soakaway containing pottery dating to between the 13th- and 14th centuries. The paucity of remains suggested that the site lay outside the urban core of the medieval settlement. Post-medieval and early modern pits, boundary walls and garden features were also observed.
