Abstract: |
<summary>A comprehensive survey was initiated to gain as much archaeological information as possible from the site. The programme of work included a watching brief on all ground works, the excavation of several trenches in the vicinity of the Rectory, a survey of the Old Rectory cellar, and an excavation undertaken with a view to locating and recording the icehouse. The results provided evidence of an earlier timber-framed building on the site. The watching brief showed that in the 18th and 19th centuries the grounds of the Georgian rectory were altered and embellished with landscape features. The icehouse proved to be early 19th century in date and in excellent condition. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
