Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of land proposed for residential development of Front Street identified that one site was recorded on the SMR as being located within the proposed development area: this comprised the site of a post-medieval corn mill (later used as a leather mill and thena hosiery mill and factory), which documentary evidence suggested may have had earlier antecedents. The site was also shown to lay within a wider area of high archaeological potential relating to the Anglo-Saxon and medieval core of Birstall. [AIP] |
