Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development identified that an Early Saxon cemetery and a Late Saxon execution cemetery had been excavated to the east of the site. Prehistoric, Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery, probable Neolithic axes and a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age occupation site had also been recorded in the surrounding area. It was noted that although some disturbance would have occurred at the site in connection with the current properties, a large proportion of the area was comprised of gardens, which were less likely to have been disturbed. Trial trenching prior to the commencement of development was recommended. [AIP] |
