Abstract: |
Archaeological investigations at the Eagle House Hotel took place in advance of the creation of a terraced area within the hotel gardens. The proposed terrace was located in an archaeologically sensitive area, adjacent to the medieval North Gate of Launceston Castle. A record was made of redeposited eighteenth century layers which were visible in the sections of the trenches. However, the most important discovery was the identification of the probable cut for the castle ditch; which for the first time had established its position and alignment. The archaeological work also produced several artefacts; although the majority of them were redeposited within disturbed contexts. [Au] |
