Abstract: |
Upon first visitation to the development site, it was found that most of the groundwork on the site had in fact, been in progress for some considerable time, in excess of a month, before any archaeological arrangements had been organised by the developer and that much of the work had been undertaken before planning approval had been received. Accordingly it was not possible to undertake monitoring on any useful scale apart from making some basic notes on the site in general and what available stratigraphy was visible in a very limited area. If, as it appeared, the site had been largely quarried in the past, then it was fairly certain that any archaeology that may have been present would have been lost at that time. Apart from a subsequent short visit to check on progress, no further visits to the site were deemed necessary and the watching brief ceased that day. [Au(abr)] |
