Abstract: |
Observation during the construction of an extensions to Hilden Manor, as part of the renovation of the fire-damaged restaurant and the construction of an adjacent hotel block, revealed few archaeological features. A stone lined well with lead piping from a force pump was the major feature exposed, the area adjacent to the manor house revealing only areas of cultivated soils, preceding the previous restaurant and kitchen extensions. The hotel site, in the car park to the east, revealed a spread of debris from a range of 19th century buildings and probably part of the fill of a linear pond between these buildings and the road.
