Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation excavation was carried out in March 1995 in connection with the proposed redevelopment of a former car park. Two trial trenches showed that any medieval street frontage which might have existed along Sheaf Street had been removed by a combination of medieval ironstone-quarrying and recent development. No trace of north-south aligned plots was present. The earliest datable structural remains were of the 16th century or later. [Au(abr)] |
