Abstract: |
Part of the restoration programme at the church consisted of the laying of a new drainage system around the church as well as underpinning the three buttreses. The former involved the excavation of four trenches and four soakaways under archaeological supervision, while the latter involved the excavation of deposits around and under the buttresses. Two test pits were also excavated along the east gable end of the church. As a result of the work it was shown that the church was constructed on natural depoists of clay and mudstone and that the south porch and the buttresses, which were later additions, cut through earlier burials. No datable finds were recovered. [Au] |
