Abstract: |
The demolition of the colliery and the subsequent landscaping of the area during the 1990s effectively removed most of the site's archaeological resource. Those elements which did survive, and merited some archaeological consideration, were the remains of the railway branch line embankment, and the areas of relatively undisturbed areas of woodland on the western side of the site. This area constituted a surviving remnant of the medieval park and may have concealed undisturbed archaeological resources from this period or earlier. [Au(abr)] |
