Abstract: |
Small scale excavation and field observations were undertaken at the English Garden House, an early eighteenth century structure designed as a 'pleasure house' where members of the family could relax away from the formal atmosphere of the main house. The work went a long way towards resolving the interpretation of arrangements for the bathing room by identifying: the drainage system for the bath, two phases of water suppy, a likely site for a boiler house and possible water tower and provided new information regarding the structural history of the building.
