Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks at the site of a new warehouse which lay within a defined area of archaeological interest. Burslem had medieval origins, and its post-medieval expansion had been based largely on the pottery industry. During the watching brief, deposits of dumped domestic waste and pottery manufacturing material were recorded, and the remains of post-medieval cellars and a culvert were noted. A well and a structure which was probably the top of a mineshaft, both dating from the 19th century, were recorded. Both contained 19th century ceramic waste. [AIP] |
