Abstract:		 MAP Archaeological Consultancy Ltd assessed the archaeological and historical background of the proposed residential development area. Existing records were searched to predict the nature of the archaeological resource in the area around the former site of the Magnet Warehouse and Showroom. The modern route of Bootham and Clifton approximately followed the line of the York to Catterick Roman road. The area around Clifton had several known Roman occupation and cemetery sites. The proposed development site lay approximately 100m north-west of known Roman remains and 200m north-west of a known Roman cemetery. [Au]
