Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site which was occupied by a former radio station and its associated bungalows, now derelict. The radio station was noted as a site of historic interest as a World War II communications centre. In the surrounding area, prehistoric artefacts and probable Bronze Age barrows had been recorded. Documentary evidence indicated that the area had comprised part of a common field in the 18th century, and had remained as agricultural land until the construction of the radio station in the 20th century. During the evaluation, no archaeological features or artefacts were revealed. Evidence of modern disturbance to the site, relating to the construction or alteration of the communication station, was noted. [AIP] |
