Abstract: |
In connection with the conversion of buildings at Archcliffe Court a programme of construction work was undertaken on the site. Archaeological observations were undertaken during the development work. Features relating to the post-medieval development of the fort were recorded. More significant was the discovery of pottery dating to 1200-1350 AD, the first recorded pottery finds of this date within the Archcliffe/Pier District of Dover. Also, a large prehistoric lithic and pottery assemblage were revealed which suggested that there was activity from this time on the castle promintory. [AIP] |
