Abstract:		 Two phases of trial trenching were carried out at the proposed site of an extension to a quarry. Fieldwalking was undertaken prior to the first evaluation, within Area 1. Fragments of medieval/post-medieval tile and brick, prehistoric struck flints and 18th-19th century pottery were recovered. Prehistoric features were revealed within both areas during trial trenching. Within Area 1, a pit or post hole and a substantial ditch, each containing a sherd of prehistoric pottery and a struck flint, were recorded. A probable recut ditch and a structure which appeared to have been part of the flue for a hearth or kiln were also observed. Post-medieval brick and tile fragments were associated with the latter. Within Area 2, several prehistoric pits and ditches and a post hole were recorded. A ditch containing 12th-13th century pottery was also found, and metalworking slag associated with prehistoric pottery and flint was observed. Further archaeological work prior to redevelopment was recommended. [AIP]
