Abstract: |
The assessment was carried out in response to proposals for a new extension to the hotel. The general area was of great national importance, due to the remains of the first major public buildings of the Roman town being located therein. The area was also noted for being a rare site of Anglo-Saxon occupation of a Roman town. The nature of the medieval landholdings on the street was also a question that could have been resolved through archaeological work. For these reasons, careful mitigation was highly recommended.
