Abstract: |
Pre-clearance surveys and watching briefs during shaft capping operations were undertaken on twenty-five shafts distributed amongst thirteen mining sites, as part of Kerrier District Council's Shaft Capping Contracts 5 and 6. Five engine houses, two angle-bob plinths, three horse engine platforms, one skip-road, three balance-bob pits or plinths, two stone culverts, one early wooden pipe, one set of headgear timbers and two building platforms, all of 18th and 19th century date, were recorded. Remains of earlier mining were revealed at eight shafts. [Au(adp)] |
