Abstract: |
Between February 2004 and February 2005 the author carried out an archaeological landscape survey, in conjunction with a metal detector survey, of the fields surrounding Birling Manor near East Dean. The retrieved assemblages revealed the location of seven new archaeological sites ranging in date from the late Bronze Age to the later medieval period. The richness and quantity of the metal finds suggests that Birling Manor was an important centre in the later Bronze Age, the late Iron Age/Romano-British period and the 12th-14th century AD. [Au] |
