Abstract: |
The site was a pilchard processing complex from at least 1597 to c.1747. Shipbuilding activity had occurred on the site since at least 1747. Some time after 1817 the dock was built and was in use by 1820. The exact date of when the dock fell into disuse for either building or repairing boats was unknown. The structure itself was an early example of its type, and was of local and regional importance to maritime history. [Au(adp)] |
