Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a new extension to the rear of a house. Though most of the new drainage trenches failed to penetrate below the level of modern deposits, the new foundation trenches penetrated through a series of mainly dump deposits that sealed the underlying natural clays. Sandwiched between the dump deposits were the remains of a single clay floor covered by an occupation deposit. Pottery sherds recovered from deposits both immediately above and below the clay floor indicated it was laid sometime between AD 1225/50 and AD 1525/50. [Au(adp)] |
