Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-based assessment ahead of excavation used a variety of sources to trace the history of the manor house and the surrounding land. The manor house was the first structure built on the site in medieval times (c1230). By the 1530s it was in a state of serious disrepair. It was patched up by various owners, but there was little left when it was dismantled in 1955. The town wall was also a medieval construction, but this disappeared in the 19th century. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea}{italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} 5702 |
