Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation was undertaken in advance of the construction of two residential dwellings on the site. An earlier evaluation of the site had revealed medieval ditches and a possible Bronze Age feature. The excavation revealed a number of archaeological features (almost all ditches) suggestive of field boundaries close to the manorial complex. The features generally dated to the Saxon-Norman/medieval period. Sparse, residual, middle Saxon finds suggested a presence in the area at this time. Residual struck flint flakes were also found in a number of deposits indicating prehistoric occupation of the vicinity. [Au(adp)] |
