Abstract: |
The watching brief identified four distinct ditches. Three of them (A, B & D) were very similar on appearance, having a dark silty soil fill, very similar in general character to the topsoil. These probably belonged to the long boundaries of plot 55, which was recorded on the first edition OS map of 1871. The fourth (C) was of different appearance. That this feature was more ancient than the field system partially represented by ditch A was clear, since A had cut through C, but how old it was could not be established. [Au(adp)] |
