Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of foundation trenches for buildings on the site and on geotechnical test pits within the standing building. An area of industrial activity was revealed south of the standing building, perhaps brick making structures known as clamps. No structural remains survived, only burnt residues. A 0.8m deep series of thin bands of gravel were revealed in section below Maiden Alley that bounded the west edge of the site. Finds evidence suggested that the industrial activity and the deposits below Maiden Alley dated to the late 18th or 19th century. [Au(abr)] |
