Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during building works for underpinning the northern and part of the eastern walls of the chancel. Human skeletal remains (of probable medieval date) were encountered at depths exceeding 0.3-0.5 metres below the existing ground surface. A patch of clunch and mortar, projecting some 0.3 metres northwards from the base of the foundation of the north-eastern buttress of the chancel was observed. It may have represented the vestiges of an earlier buttress. It was not substantial and would appear to have been truncated, perhaps during the early 19th century rebuild. [Au(adp)] |
