Abstract: |
Following the discovery of a number of pit features during a watching brief on groundworks for the construction of the A30 Indian Queens-Fraddon road improvement, further excavation was undertaken. Located less than 30m away from Little Gaverigan Barrow, an enclosed oval space defined by a series of shallow segmented ditches and postholes forming an unusual horse-shoe arrangement were revealed. A deep pit at the centre of the area contained a deposit comprising a mass of cremated material together with a bronze awl, contained within a decorated ceramic collared urn, dating to the Early Bronze Age. A large quartz block situated close to the cremation deposit was thought to represent a marker stone. [AIP] |
