Abstract: |
A desk based assessment followed plans to revitalise the area with housing, a motel, supermarket and extended and upgraded business park. Some of the development area lay within the Scheduled town site. This assessment recovered information dating the formation of Stonar Bank to the Late Iron Age and so pre-Roman activity on the site is unlikely. Roman building materials were recovered in previous excavation and other Roman finds have been recorded through the years. The main settlement is medieval in date and consisted of a town of some 3 hectares in size and confined to the shingle ridge. [Au(abr)] |
