Abstract: |
The excavation of trenches 7 and 8 were undertaken in order to conclude the investigation of Monument 1. More of the barrow monument including the ring-ditch was revealed and recorded. An assemblage of Grooved Ware and some Beaker pottery, and a quantity of struck flint was recovered from this feature. There was also a buried horizon underneath the barrow mound which contained many cut features including hollows, pits, post holes and stake holes. There was increasing evidence that the barrow could have been constructed over an earlier ditched enclosure constituting a henge monument. Other finds included the partially complete skeleton of a medieval cow. [AIP] |
