Abstract: |
Archaeological excavations adjacent to The Abbey revealed a paved surface, a substantial wall foundation and a possible buttress. The wall was not in an exact alignment with an existing building but parallel to it. The floor levels were broadly similar suggesting that they may have been roughly contemporary. Stone roof tiles and painted window glass were recovered from immediately above the floor. Residual Roman pottery and coin were found in the deposit abutting the southern face of the wall and underlying the floor. [Au] |
