Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of a dekstop assessment and programme of trial trenching was undertaken in order to assess the archaeological potential of the site. The site was one of the few undeveloped medieval street frontage tenements remaining within Bungay. Also, the proximity of the site to the River Waveney gave it high archaeological potential, in particular for waterlogged deposits. The evaluation revealed no evidence for any archaeological features within the development area, and showed that it lay on the edge of a palaeochannel of the River Waveney, indicating that the site was probably marginal land until the area was levelled and built up.
