Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during topsoil stripping and the excavation of foundation trenches at a development site. A priory and almshouses had existed nearby, suggesting a potential for medieval deposits. During the watching brief a pit and a possible post hole, each containing a sherd of medieval pottery, were recorded. A recent well and a probable air-raid shelter were also observed. It was concluded that, although the two pits may have related to an area of medieval occupation, the artefactual evidence was not sufficient to support this conclusively. [AIP] |
