Abstract: |
The desktop survey established that the study area was once part of the extensive Smyth Estates in the early 19th century; the property in the area was sold off piecemeal and the study area was in private ownership by 1843. The adjoining plot to the north was the site of St George's Infectious Diseases Hospital which passed to the City and County of Bristol in 1897. In 1903 the study area quarry had a loading ramp and a weigh house and weighbridge which are still extant, and by 1918 the present buildings had been constructed.[Au(abr)] |
