Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological investigations was carried out which consisted of the acquisition and analysis of palaeoenvironmental samples and archaeological trial trenching of a 2% sample of the development area. An intact sequence of water laid sediments were observed and sampled including the extreme distal portion of a shingle spit or recurve. Such formations were of considerable palaeoenvironmental importance and were important features associated with the reclamation of the Romney Marshes. No significant archaeological features or deposits were found within the northern field in which the development was to be situated. A single possible ditch feature was identified in the area in which a pipeline was to be excavated. The possible feature was undated and resembled a natural variation in the alluvium. [Au] |
