Abstract: |
The results of the watching brief taken in context with those of a previous evaluation proved that there was in situ Roman archaeology on the development site in the nature of cremations and a possible funeral pyre but no associated structures were exposed. The excavation demonstrated that the area had suffered considerable plough damage during the later Roman and medieval period, and had also been quarried for gravel or brickearth. There was no surviving archaeology from the Anglo-Saxon period but there was a resurgence of finds and features dating to the medieval. [Au(adp)] |
