Abstract: |
Archaeological investigations in the area known as Gaverigan took place in advance of an extension to the tipping area of Wheal Remfry China Clay Pit. A number of investigation techniques were used including sketch field survey, geophysical survey, evaluation trenching and pollen analysis. Prior to the investigatio the area was considered to have been of high archaeological potential. A Bronze Age ritual landscape had been excavated in the early 1990s to the north where a field system of apparently medieval origin occupied the SW part of the study area. The results enhanced the understanding of the area. features which were thought to relate to the medieval enclosure of the area were revealed, as well as a small assemblage of prehistoric flint flakes. Post-medieval boundaries were revealed, along with features relating to the post-medieval exploitation of the site as a china clay quarry. [Au(adp)] |
