Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the incorporation of the area into a housing development as park and recreation areas. The site was a moated site and it was hoped to record various aspects of the construction and use of it. No dating evidence for the initial excavation of the moat or the construction of an assumed manor house was found. Two sherds of pottery recovered from the causeway suggested a date corresponding to that of the 1840 tithe map. However, the presence of an electricity cable meant that modern disruption was evident. Without much dating evidence the Park arm site could be regarded as a typical medieval moated site with a manor house situated on the island. [AIP] |
