Abstract: |
On several occasions during January 1995 intermittent archaeological watching brief work was undertaken on St. Radigund's Bridge, Canterbury whilst arch strengthening and parapet repairs were being carried out. It was hoped that portions of the City Wall, possibly including remnants of the 14th century bridge would be observed. Chalk rubble beneath the modern road surface may conceivably have been the remains of 19th century roads, but no surfaces were visible. The excavation of a service trench exposed a six metre length of 14th century defensive wall, the upper portion of which was a post-medieval re-build. [Au(adp)] |
