Abstract: |
A programme of fieldwalking, metal detecting and geophysical survey was undertaken on land off Heath Road prior to the submission of a planning application to redevelop the site. The geophysical survey was the subject of a separate report. The fieldwalking was undertaken in good conditions of visibility and revealed a general scatter of struck and burnt flint across the site, and also an area of more intense activity in the central western part of the site. A single prehistoric pottery sherd was also found. A metal-detector survey of the site revealed only modern ironwork and spent machine-gun bullet casings from WWII. No direct evidence of the former barrow was recorded. [Au(abr)] |
