Abstract:		 A desk-based appraisal of the area of Myton-on-Swale and the surrounding area in relation to a proposed new water treatment plant identified ten recorded archaeological sites. One of the sites was the Registered Battlefield of the Battle of Myton. The site of the proposed development lay entirely within an area of well preserved extant earthwork features related to the settlement and subsistence economy of the village in the post-Conquest period. The proposed development had the potential to compromise a number of earthworks during groundworks, including remains from the battlefield with an outfall pipe installation. Recommendations included further archaeological monitoring and a topographic, photographic and descriptive recording. [Au(adp)]
