Abstract: |
The extensive excavations provided a new insight on the development of the important medieval village of Pirton. The nucleus of a possible Saxo-Norman manorial settlement of buildings surrounding a cemetery was uncovered. The cemetery lay to the south of a building in an appropriate location to be interpreted as a church. The investigations revealed the considerable well preserved remains of a very dense settlement which clearly extended well beyond the excavation area in every direction. [Au(adp)] |
